Hello
I am looking for real world experiences in the Informix community on reorging tables and rebuilding indexes. Specifically, what is the threshold and how does one find it? Our shop uses other RDBMS's and they are quite frequently doing both of these actions and also they run some sql that tells them the amount of fragmentation on indexes and tables. They also have the ability to do these actions online, which is obviously an advantage for not having to have things be offline.
Thanks,
Tom

There are many methods to reorg'ing tables and indexes with IDS. The key to get it done "quickly" is to use PDQ appropriately (and the related parameters for the session and the engine). I have a presentation I can send you if you give me your email address that focuses on this issue. The "threshold" is a metric with a lot of variables involved and could generate a very lengthy thread. A chat would be better for this no doubt.
